The Spring Swing

Coming Soon: Salad

Blue for peas, red for radishes
As the snow has given way over the last few weeks we have started our first garden work of the spring.  The sheep barn was mucked out with all that excremental goodness spread on the garden.  Peas and the first radishes have been planted.  A collection of lettuce seeds spread into a bed.  Trays housing seeds that will grow into hot peppers, squash, and tomatoes have been placed in the cold frame.  Our top setting onions have emerged from their winter slumber and the apple trees will soon be setting out their blossoms.

On my next weekend off I will be cleaning out the chicken house, that manure cannot be directly added to the garden but must be composted, and putting up wood for the next winter.  Neither is a bother, as long as I am outside.
